Perspectives & Priorities

As you imagine these scenarios and contemplate these questions
about your home, your life, and your priorities,
write down your thoughts in an Inspiration Journal*
specific for this purpose
(see Creating a Place of Peace ~ Nourishing the Soul).

Take your time going through this exercise –
repeat it several times over a period of days or even weeks.
The more you ponder these questions, the more answers you will have.

From your answers, begin formulating your likes, your dislikes,
your strengths, your passions, your dreams, and your goals –
hone these into a vision for your home and your life.

Having a central vision helps us live a life of peace and joy.

THE QUESTIONS

QUESTION 1: Where in your home (or outside) do you go to sit and relax?  What is it about this place that you like?  What do you like to do in this place?  What mood do you like to experience in that place?

This helps identify the environment that calms your spirit.

QUESTION 2:  If you had to evacuate your home due to an emergency with the possibility of never returning, and you only had the space in your vehicle, what would you take?   What are the most meaningful and/or irreplaceable things from your home?     (You would be going to a place that would have beds, linens, food, and the possibility to get other living necessities.)

This helps identify the items that are most meaningful to you.

QUESTION 3:  If you had 3 days without any responsibilities, what would you choose to do?  What hobbies would you pursue?  What volunteer or other activities would you engage in?   What about if you had one month or one year?  Are there some dreams or passions you would pursue?  What about projects you would like to complete?

This helps identify your interests, your dreams, and your passions.

QUESTION 4:  If you could overhear someone describing you to another person, what would you like them to say?  What type of person do you aspire to be?   How do you want to be remembered after you die?  What qualities are the most important to you?    (e.g., adventurous, generous, caring, outgoing, introspective, intelligent, friendly, hospitable, reliable, etc.)

This helps identify the type of person you would like to be.

Knowing these things about yourself is helpful
when decluttering and organizing your home and your life
because all considerations can be compared
with the type of person, life, and home you want to create.

NOTE:  These questions are for personal introspection – you could adapt them to apply to your family and other areas of your life as well.
