A Burden Too Heavy
I’ve seen it too many times. People with talents and potential, putting on a façade of happiness hiding deep-down and long-standing discontent.
This pervasive discontent with self and life is the result of carrying around a burden, a crippling burden that makes getting out of bed a struggle, taking care of self and family a struggle, and even carrying out the smallest tasks a struggle. Every day seems to be unproductive and the burden doesn’t seem to be getting lighter.
Somewhere deep down they have a dream, a vision for their life,
a life very different from they one they are living.
“Someday,” they say.
What is this Burden?
Burdens come in many shapes and sizes. It can be financial stress, relational difficulties, or emotional trauma.*
But for many, it is Clutter and Disorder.
Many are overwhelmed by a home full of things:
so many things that are disorganized,
so many things that clutter their home,
so many things that hinder their goals and dreams.
They can’t find what they need or remember where they put important items. Money is wasted buying more things to make them happy only to have this “stuff” bury and suffocate them. The to-do lists taking care of all their things is overwhelming.
These things haven’t brought them the happiness they desire.
This clutter and disorder can stir up anxiety;
the weight of the burden can even imprison its victims in depression.
“This is not the life I want!” they say.
A cluttered and disorganized home often reflects
a cluttered and disorganized mind
and a cluttered and disorganized life.
The home can be reflective of the mind
that seems to be going in every direction, yet has no direction.
It can also be reflective of a life that seems out of control,
where seemingly crisis after crisis dictate the days,
and there never seems to be enough time (or money)
to do the most important things in life.
Does any of this fit with what you have thought? felt? experienced?
Are you longing for a change, but don’t know where to start?
